Full Version: Birthday Presents
Reversible
For my birthday my family went all out. They ignored my birthday list and for my presents I got a picture printed from the family computer, a movie I didn't ask for, and two kitchen knives that, when combined, cost less than five dollars (which means they'll rust if they get wet and will break after a week's use).

My sister in Nebraska and my grandma did better for me than my combined leftover family at the house. wtf mate.

Combined family birthday present worth: $19.38
Sister: $30
Grandma: $24

So being the ungrateful child that I am, I returned the knives and movie, and used the refund money and other money I got to buy the five movies that were actually on my list from Amazon.

I won. D: But why did I have to do a jig to get even one thing I asked for?

TL;DR -- To be honest, I prefer no presents to thoughtless presents. It actually hurt my feelings to see them chuck something at me that they bought an hour earlier just for the sake of giving a present on my birthday. If they didn't really want to get me anything, they could have just given me a hug and said they loved me instead.

Oh well. sleep.gif At least I have a family that kinda tries, right? Plus the sister in Nebraska earned extra love.

Your tl;dr was longer than your initial post. xD

But yeah, that sucks. I always kinda thought your parents were more considerate than that. There might be something else up, I dunno.

Bleh, I don't get presents anymore. People give me money, gift cards, and bills.

There used to be a time where it was the thought, and not what you got, that counted. Who knows. Maybe they got you stuff they thought you might want but didn't put on your list, so you would be surprised. Where is the fun in saying "it is my birthday, buy me these things"

The fun is in getting something you actually want. << Besides, there's plenty of thought that counts if you give them a list, because it implies that they thought "hey, I know she wants this, she'd be happy to receive this as a gift" rather than "who knows if she'll really like this but I'll buy it anyway".
